Treatment
Which Newport Institute program is right for me?
Whether to seek treatment is one of the most difficult decisions that you or a loved one may face. It is not a decision you should have to make on your own. We offer confidential, 24/7 support with a dedicated team to discuss the options and next steps to help you achieve your goals.
What is a residential treatment center?
A residential treatment center (RTC), sometimes called a rehab, is a live-in healthcare facility providing therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, substance abuse, and other behavioral issues. A residential treatment center at Newport Institute is a loving, caring sanctuary for you to heal, reset, establish a healthy regimen, and find a new lease on life. Our environments are surrounded by nature, with beautiful hiking trails and peaceful outdoor sanctuaries. There are gardens on all of our properties, and we serve nourishing farm-to-table meals. Therapeutic sessions take place as part of an integrated approach that is customized to serve each unique individual. Consider this your home for healing.
How long does rehab last?
Residential treatment for young adults requires an adequate period of time to generate sustainable change. The minimum length of residential treatment depends on the type and extend of a person’s individual challenges, but studies show that outcomes are better when an individual stays in residential treatment for three months or more with a continuum of care lasting up to a year.
Can I continue my experiential therapy when I transition to an outpatient program?
Yes, all experiential elements of care from residential programs can be continued alongside outpatient care, including (but not limited to) animal-assisted therapy, music therapy, yoga, and guided meditation.
How often will I receive individual therapy?
As often as your personalized treatment team feels is necessary—which could be once a day to a few times a week.
How will it impact my school or work?
Newport Institute can work with you to determine a schedule that best suits your current needs while supporting you during this important phase of life.
Will I be asked to do chores while in the program?
Yes, but your house will work together as a team, and daily chores will be split up among all residents.
Do I have to be in residential treatment first?
Not necessarily. Newport Institute’s healthcare advisors can help you assess your options and determine the best path forward. Our staff is available 24/7 to discuss your needs and help you decide which program is right for your family.
What is the Life Skills program like at Newport Institute?
Newport Institute’s Life Skills Program is designed to enhance executive functioning, support career development, and build practical skills. Young adults work with career mentors, academic tutors, and educational therapists to begin forging a path that ignites enthusiasm and hope for the future.
Do you provide gender-specific treatment?
Yes. Research and our experience show that treatment is more effective when young adults have the opportunity to focus completely on their own healing, without distraction.
What is the role of the family in treatment?
Family members are expected to be involved throughout the treatment process when deemed clinically appropriate by your treatment team. Because mental health concerns affect the entire family system and support network, not just the individual, sustainable healing and recovery include repairing family and other relationships that have been disrupted.
Insurance & Payment
Does Newport Institute take insurance?
Newport Institute works with most major insurance health plans to optimize access to care. We take great pride in the fact that we have a full-time, in-house team dedicated to supporting you and your loved ones through what can, at times, be a complicated financing process of securing insurance coverage. Schedule a complimentary call with one of our Admissions experts to learn more about your coverage.
What if my insurance isn’t accepted?
Private pay is a viable option in the event that you do not have insurance that covers behavioral healthcare, or if your balance after insurance benefits adds up to something that you cannot afford. We will work with you and your insurance provider to find a viable solution. Connecting you with the help you need, when you need it, is our top priority!
Will my and my family’s confidentiality be protected?
Absolutely. From your very first phone with one of our Admissions Experts, your treatment is 100% confidential. Please see our comprehensive privacy policy for details on your medical records and privacy.
Will Newport Institute collaborate with my current therapist?
Yes. We feel this is an absolutely crucial part of what we do. We often speak one-on-one with professionals about specific program details. We know that your current therapist can offer invaluable insight to your team at Newport Institute.

For Professionals
What do physicians and medical staff provide at Newport Institute locations?
Comprehensive assessments and examinations are conducted with our physicians and psychiatrists. Newport Institute locations are staffed by experienced nurses. For urgent and emergency medical and psychiatric care needs, we refer residential patients to local resources, such as acute care hospitals or specialty physicians and physicians.
What if a patient needs psychiatric help?
Our psychiatrists assess clients’ mental health status and can provide psychiatric referral services such as medication management. Psychologists, licensed family therapists, experiential therapists, and social workers are also available for residential locations to provide additional support. Our intake counselors gather mental health backgrounds during the assessment process, and with the permission of the client, discuss their needs with their outside mental healthcare provider.
Our programs are proven to achieve positive outcomes in healing mental health and substance abuse disorders. However, we are not a locked psychiatric hospital, and if your client’s condition is too severe to be safely accommodated at Newport Institute, we will place a referral to treatment for your young adult to another provider.
