Newport Institute offers residential treatment that goes deeper than healing the symptoms of behavioral health concerns. Our clinically driven and outcomes-based residential treatment programs assess the entire client profile from childhood experiences to the current environment. With this assessment, we identify the root causes for mental health concerns and maladaptive behavior such as substance use disorder, and build a tailored treatment plan for each individual.

What to Look for in a Young Adult Residential Treatment Program
It’s not always easy to identify which programs will provide safe, effective, and compassionate treatment. There are critical signifiers, however, that demonstrate a company’s commitment to the highest-quality care. Here are some of the most important things to look for when choosing the best residential mental health programs for young adults.
Accreditation
A program’s recognition by national accrediting bodies is a clear signifier of treatment quality. Look for accreditation from organizations such as The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest healthcare accreditation body. Affiliations with respected organizations in the field also indicate that a treatment program is trustworthy and is held accountable.
Insurance Partnerships
Many individuals and families don’t realize that insurance covers behavioral healthcare. At Newport Institute, we work with most major insurance companies, including top providers such as Anthem, Kaiser Permanente, and Blue Cross Blue Shield, to optimize access to care for young adults.
Academic & Life Skills Program
Newport Institute provides enhanced academic and life skills training within a therapeutic environment. Our specialized curriculum is designed to keep young adults on track with their educational and career goals while grow their strengths, executive functioning, and motivation.
Outcomes Research
The highest-quality mental healthcare programs rigorously track and analyze their treatment outcomes, utilizing a third-party research organization, and publish their results annually. Newport’s outcomes research shows that our treatment leads to significant improvements in well-being, anxiety, and depression measures, as well as parent-child relationships and academic engagement.
Licensed & Credentialed Staff
Clinical staff should hold up-to-date licensure and advanced degrees from reputable educational institutions. Therapists should have appropriate credentials and accredited training. Healthcare leadership should have demonstrated and extensive experience guiding top-tier companies in the delivery of successful, safe, and compassionate care.
An Integrated Clinical Model
The best treatment programs take an integrative approach that includes evidence-based clinical and experiential modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, family therapy modalities. Experiential modalities, such as Adventure Therapy, are provided with the utmost attention to clients’ safety and sense of security.

Why We Created Newport Institute
Many recognized facilities seek to treat teens and young adults struggling with mental health disorders and substance abuse. But they only treat the symptoms—not the underlying issues. In addition, they don’t have an approach that gets to these core issues. Therefore, the success rate of adolescent treatment is hindered.
Treating symptoms can sometimes lead to short-term positive outcomes. However, it does not create real, sustainable success.
We set out to build Newport Academy and then Newport Institute as comprehensive treatment alternatives to teen and young adult rehabilitation. Ultimately, we wanted an approach that addresses the “why,” not just the “what.”
Our treatment programs focus on each individual’s unique DNA, history, temperament, and constitution. We offer an integrated approach that balances psychological, biological, social, educational or career-focused, and spiritual needs—leading to sustainable, long-term recovery.
