In her role as CEO for the Pavilion, UHS’s 106-bed psychiatric hospital in Amarillo, Texas, Shelley was responsible for physician performance and all behavioral health service lines. During her two years there, she increased event reporting by 420 percent and decreased staff injuries by 80 percent, while improving employee retention and engagement. Her previous positions include Director of Behavioral Health for the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Missouri, and Program Director for Horizon Health’s Lutheran Medical Center. Before joining the Newport team in early 2020, Shelley served as a consultant for numerous behavioral health and healthcare organizations, including Visiting Angels, E-Y Parthenon, and TopClimb Publishing, LLC.
Shelley is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor, and a Certified Level II EMDR Therapist. Over her three decades in the field, she has worked with adolescent, adult, and inmate populations. As Director of Juvenile Diversion Counseling Program in Colorado from 2005–2011, she created a Teen Media Project that won three Regional Heartland Emmy Awards, two international Communicator Awards, and a Silver Telly Award for Public Service Announcements. As an adjunct professor at the University of Arizona, Shelley taught graduate courses on personality theories and counseling models, family intervention, and advanced marriage and family intervention.
