Before becoming the Newport Institute Founder, Jamison founded Newport Academy 12 years ago to treat clients ages 12–20 suffering from primary mental health issues: anxiety, trauma, depression, and co-occurring disorders. As a leader in adolescent mental health treatment, Newport Academy has received numerous requests from referral sources, professionals, and parents to create a program for the young adult population.
Hence, Jamison has evolved his vision, and we’ve translated our highly successful Newport Academy model into a program for 18- to 28-year-olds. Newport Institute takes into account the unique needs of young adults, while maintaining the core philosophies that underlie our integrated treatment model. In all of our unparalleled treatment programs, we provide clinical excellence, a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, and the practical skills necessary to build a fulfilling life.
Prior to founding Newport Academy, Jamison Monroe worked in multiple mental health and co-occurring disorder treatment facilities—starting his career as an overnight coordinator and working his way up to Executive Director. He is also the co-founder of Drugs over Dinner, advocating open conversation about drug use in families and communities. Jamison was a producer of the critically acclaimed documentary film Behind the Orange Curtain, about the prescription drug epidemic in the United States.
Advice I Would Give My 20-Something Self
“You are not alone. There are so many people out there who are going through the same thing, and there is hope. I am grateful to have made it through what was a dark time for me, and I’m proud and honored to be able to share my experience and my healing journey with other young people who are struggling as I once was.”
