Heather Monroe, LCSW, brings more than a decade’s worth of experience to Newport Institute, having worked with young adults as both a Psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker to develop effective treatment plans and prevention methods. As Newport Institute’s Director of Program Development, she is committed to developing curriculum and programming that prepares young adults to live healthy, happy, and independent lives. Heather has implemented solution-focused techniques that combine clinical, holistic, nutritional, and experiential therapies to create an environment that is safe and conducive to the healing process. As a certified expert, she gives advice on mental health and co-occurring disorders such as eating disorders, as well as anxiety and other stress-related mental health & conditions.

Clinical Expertise

At Newport Institute, Heather Monroe specializes in treating young adults struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, and prioritizes being present every step of the way as her patients move through the healing process. Heather is a frequent speaker at US Journal Training conferences where she discusses a myriad of clinical topics such as relational trauma, the power and science of gratitude, how to build authentic connections and how trauma effects individuals and families. Prior to joining Newport, Heather was Director of Family Services at Partnership for Drug-Free Kids in NYC.

Advice I Would Give My 20-Something Self

I spent so much of my 20s stuck in stories of shame, unworthiness and unlovability. These beliefs fueled addictions that refueled these beliefs. I would remind my 20-year-old self that your past does not have to dictate your future; that you don’t have to live like this anymore – that’s how powerful you are.
